Koonung players at WNBL grand final

It was great to see so many Koonung players with their parents at the WNBL grand final between Bulleen Boomers and Canberra Capitals today. Everyone who went to the game were treated to one of the closest and most exciting games of the season. Just when the Boomers appeared to be over the line in the last quarter, the Capitals put a magnificent final three minutes to snatch the championship trophy by 5 minutes.

Again we congratulate former Comets player Lauren Jeffers who, despite not getting on the court, was able to have the opportunity to be part of a successful Boomers camp in her first year of WNBL. This is the second consecutive year the Boomers have received the runners-up trophy so hopefully Lauren will have the opportunity again next year to work towards being premiers!

Fees Increase

Please be advised that we have been informed by the EDJBA that the match day fees will be increased to $5.80 per player per match for the Winter 2010 season. In addition to this the Team Sheet Fee for the finals for Winter season will increase to $35.00.

They have also advised that the fees will further increase to $6.00 per player for the Summer 2010-11 season.

Koonung has success at Eltham tournament

Two teams represented Koonung Comets Basketball Club in the annual Eltham/Dandenong junior basketball tournament. A team compiled of a mixture of U8's and U10's entered the U10 B/C grade, while a team compiled of U18's and U20's entered in the U20 B grade division. The weekend was conducted between 21st and 24th of January, with both teams achieving fantastic results.

Koonung Comets player makes debut in WNBL

Congratulations to former Koonung comets player Lauren Jeffers who made her debut in the WNBL championship season on 10^th October. Lauren is representing the Bulleen Boomers who came runners up in the WNBL championship season in 2008/09 and are currently undefeated in the 2009/10 season after five matches. Lauren began her basketball career at Koonung at a young age before developing her skills at representative level for Nunawading Spectres and Melbourne Tigers. In 2009 she competed in the Bulleen Boomers’ Big V Championship women’s team before being selected as part of the WNBL team.
